VIDEO - OUR 50 YEAR OLD PRESS RUNNING - JULY 2006
This video shows the 50-year-old Fort Wayne Newspapers press in operation. Following is the sequence of what you will see:
  • Rolls of newsprint are ready to be put on the press.
  • The paper is fed into the press for the printing of that day's newspaper.
  • Following the sound of the buzzer comes the splicing of newsprint. When one roll runs out, the pressmen splice another roll while the press continues to run.
  • The pressmen put on another full roll of newsprint.
  • Various portions of the press show the paper moving at normal speed through the plates that print the pages, sending them through the folder and other machinery that cuts the paper to the proper size.
  • The printed papers move down a conveyor to the stacking machines and the bundling machines.
  • Ultimately they move down a conveyor and out to waiting cars and trucks to be delivered to carriers, single copy sales locations and subscribers' doorsteps.
