That was bush

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

I hate it when a handful of fans make all the crowd look bush league like happened tonight. That was ridiculous. Throwing crap didn’t accomplish anything other than embarassing everyone else. No excuse.

Show some class and set a great example for all the kids. Remember who you are and who you represent.

As for the game, the Komets again played well defensively but didn’t score enough. There’s a lot of pressure on some very young defensemen, and they are going to make mistakes. Centomo was awesome for the Lumberjacks and made four or five game-saving stops. This was the first game I’ve seen all year when I felt like the goaltender stole one by not just making the saves he should have. Komets really missed Blair Stayzer standing in front of the net, and the Komets seam to get burned once or twice a game when the youngsters start scrambling around in their own end rushing to get the puck out instead of taking a half-second to look up and see what’s open. Some of that stuff you just have to live with until they mature, but it’s the other end of the ice that should concern everyone.

This is from News-Sentinel copy editor Katie Stine who is a massive Komets fan and who has rescued my rear end more than I care to admit.

Roster moves

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

According to David Franke:

Justin Chwedoruk deal is finalized and waiting for league approval. He’s expected to play this weekend.

Nick Boucher has been placed on 30-day injured reserve retroactive to Monday.

Tyler Sims will sign tomorrow to a second emergency goaltender contract.

Travis Whitehead has been placed on waivers.

Kevin Bertram will be activated tomorrow.

Blair Stayzer is week-to-week but unlikely to play this weekend.

Franke: Komets are talking with Chwedoruk

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

He said they are getting close to signing the winger who is back home after having two European teams go out of business on him this season. We’ll know more tomorrow.

The Komets are still planning on activating Kevin Bertram also so some moves will have to be made.

Colin Chaulk won’t play Friday because he’s home in Toronto for his grandmother’s funeral, but the Komets are flying him into Bloomington on Saturday.

We got to see history

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Well, some of us did, on Sunday in Muskegon when Brandon Warner set up Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock’s third-period goal. That’s the first time Fort Wayne natives have scored or assisted on the same goal for the Komets.

Most of the Fort Wayne natives have been goaltenders: Chris Wright, Rick Wynn, Joe Franke and Brian Gratz, and Ron Ullyot never played with another player from the Summit City. John Baldasarri and Colin  Chin played 20 games together at the start of the 1986-87 season but never hit together on the scoresheet.

Coat drive continues

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

The Komets, in conjunction with Kroger and Scott’s, are asking fans to bring gently used or new kid’s coats, sizes six through 14 please, new mittens, hats and scarves to the Komet home game this Friday against the Muskegon Lumberjacks at 8pm.  All items will be distributed to children in need in the local area.  Komet fans making a donation will get 10 free chuck-a-pucks, compliments of Kroger and Scott’s.

Autograph zone answer

According to Scott Sproat, that had been sponsored by Centennial Wireless for eight years and they are up in the air because of negotiations with AT&T at this time and did not sign up again. It may be re-introduced in the future.
