INDIANAPOLIS - Both the offense and the defense provided some big plays as the Colts edged out their division rivals in Jim Caldwell's debut as head coach.
Peyton Manning's passing game was in sync, as he completed 28 of 38 passes for 301 yards and a touchdown to Reggie Wayne. Wayne caught 10 passes for 162 yards - his sixth game of 100 or more yards against the Jaguars. However, the Colts failed to convert a one-yard run on third and fourth down with two minutes left that could have iced the game.
Jacksonville took over at its own 35, and the Colts defense smothered Jaguars quarterback David Garrard on three straight plays to keep them from reaching a potential game-tying field goal.
MIAMI - The Colts offense had the ball for less than 15 minutes in one of the most stunning wins in Monday Night Football history.
Indianapolis trailed four times in the game, and the defense had trouble with Miami's running game and “wildcat” offense. The Dolphins rushed for 239 yards and converted 15 of 21 third-down plays.
Despite the defensive troubles, Manning would not be denied. On the game-winning drive, Manning moved the Colts 80 yards in 32 seconds. He read the blitz and hit Pierre Garcon on a slant pass, which Garcon turned into a 48-yard touchdown.
Manning finished with 14-of-23 passing for 303 yards and two touchdowns. Dallas Clark, who scored on an 80-yard pass play from the first play of scrimmage, had seven catches for 183 yards. The Colts set an NFL record for winning with the smallest time of possession (14:53).
PHOENIX - Manning threw for 379 yards and four touchdowns as the Colts cruised to a big win over the defending NFC champion Arizona Cardinals.
Manning threw three touchdown passes in the second quarter - 20 yards to Wayne, 10 yards to Clark and 53 yards to Garcon - to put the Colts in firm control. The running game also contributed, as Joseph Addai (63 yards) and Donald Brown (40 yards) combined to break 100 yards.

ST. LOUIS - The Colts flourished in all aspects in a game against the winless St. Louis Rams that was as one-sided as expected.
Manning completed 23 of 34 passes for 235 yards - snapping his streak of 300-yard games - and three touchdowns. The first drive of the game set the tone, as the Colts marched 90 yards with Manning hitting Wayne four times (14, 25, 16 and 6 yards) with the final connection a touchdown. Officials ruled that Texans running back Ryan Moats fumbled out of bounds, but Caldwell challenged and it was ruled that Jerraud Powers had recovered the ball.

Credit the defense in large part for holding the Ravens to five field goals and coming up with a huge interception by Gary Brackett deep in Colts territory in the final three minutes. Special teams then came through when the Ravens' Ed Reed tried to lateral a late punt return, resulting in a fumble recovered by the Colts.

But it was the Colts defense that made sure the game didn't get away. Indy shut down the Bronocs on 10 of 13 possessions, including two 4th-and-1 run stops by Brackett and Powers, a sack by Brackett, a Tim Jennings interception and a Freeney sack. Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall caught an NFL-record 21 passes (for 200 yards and two touchdowns) in the defense's only real flaw.

Manning's first drive consisted of three passes to Collie in a span of 58 seconds and covered 80 yards right before halftime. The highlight of that drive was a perfectly thrown 46-yard to Collie between two Jets defenders.
