Name: Tyler J. Scott

School: Snider

Achievements: Scott's awards for distinguished musical performance include outstanding soloist in combo and in big band at the 2008 Purdue University Jazz Festival; Outstanding Drum Soloist and Outstanding Combo at the 2008 Northrop Jazz Festival; Distinguished Performance at the 2008 North Side Jazz Festival; and selection in 2008 to the Indiana All-State Jazz Band.

Activities: Scott served from 2005 to 2008 as band leader and drummer for Intro to Groove, a jazz combo made up of students from Fort Wayne-area high schools. He was pit section leader as a junior and senior for the Snider Mighty Panther Marching Band and played with the Snider Wind Machine and Combo, as well as the basketball pep band each year in high school. He also enjoys doing recording for local musicians at his home studio.

Comments: Sterling Sentinel judges described his performance as well-prepared, professional and at a level above other applicants. “His playing was sophisticated and stylistically perfect,” said Judge Laura Weston-Elchert.

Plans: Scott hopes to attend Berkely College of Music in Boston, where he would like to double major in drum set performance and music production and engineering. Afterward, he would like to pursue a career in jazz music.
