Achievements: Member of varsity cross-country, tennis, track and golf teams; Wendy's High School Heisman winner at her school; Northeast Hoosier Conference All-Conference in cross country and tennis; cross country school record holder; cross country Most Valuable Runner; academic scholar; Student Council member; and National Honor Society president.


Activities: Upward Basketball coach, Student Athletic Leadership Team (SALT), Key Club and National Honor Society. As member of SALT, Nelson organized and publicized a benefit, which raised $13,000, for a teacher who was battling cancer.


Comments: “Her performance in athletics have consistently been above average, and I see no reason that this trend will not continue. She has actively been a part of a diverse assortment of athletic programs at school including tennis (two letters), cross country (four letters), track (four letters), golf (one letter) and basketball,” said Troy Gruenin, math teacher and tennis and soccer coach.

Sterling Sentinel Judge Reggie Hayes said, “Haley has achieved in multiple sports, come back from injury and maintained high academic standards.”


Plans: Nelson plans to major in pre-dentistry or biology, complete dental school and have a career in orthodontics.
