HOOSIER FUN FACTS
The nation's first horse-thief's detective association was founded in 1845 near Wingate, Ind. Three years later, it had evolved into the Council Grove Minute Men, which then became the National Horse Thief Detective Association, which was granted extrraordinary policing powers by the state. All such groups had dissolved by 1957, after horse thievery "had ceased to be a major problem."
Indiana is the top popcorn-producing state in the nation, growing a fourth of the nation's total.
