FATAL HOUSE FIRE
Calls to 9-1-1 dispatch
reporting a fire on Jefferson Boulevard

Calls to 9-1-1 dispatch from frenzied callers reporting the Jan. 17 triple-fatal fire at 722 E. Jefferson Blvd. have led to an investigation by Fort Wayne's 9-1-1 Communications and Information Systems to determine whether the department was in line with protocol. One of the calls shows that it took the dispatcher over 5 1/2 minutes to get a verification of east versus west with the caller while she assumed the fire to be on West Jefferson and sent responders that way. The caller in a second call provides the correct street number but affirms with the dispatcher that it is West Jefferson. The fire resulted in the deaths of Brandi Bender, 23, who was eight months pregnant, and her sons, Nicholas Adkins, 5, and Peyton Bender, 4.

This is a second call to 9-1-1 dispatch.
